Self Esteem

Low Self Esteem? Time For Some Positive Thinking. If someone told you over and over again how worthless you were, you’d probably begin to believe them after a while. The same goes for how we talk to ourselves. If we constantly think to ourselves that we can’t do this or that, that we don’t deserve this or that, or that we can’t succeed or obtain what we want, eventually we will live up to our own self fulfilling prophecies. If you have low self esteem, you need to look deep inside and you need to be aware of how you talk to yourself. Do you think positively or do you think negatively? If you think negatively, then your self esteem issues can be fixed. It just takes time, patience, and a little positive self talk.

List The Negatives To increase your self esteem, first look deep inside of yourself and list all the things you don’t like about yourself. Really pay attention to how you think. What do you tell yourself over and over that could be lowering your self esteem? Do you constantly tell yourself that you’re a failure, for instance? Do you tell yourself that you’re ugly, that you will never be what you want to be? If so, write all of these down. Make a list, no matter how great, and list all the bad things you tell yourself on a regular basis. When you’re finished, if you’re like most people, you’ll probably have a pretty long list.

Now, List the Negatives

Now take that list and turn it around. Turn every negative into a positive. This is going to help increase your self esteem. If you have on your list that you think you’re ugly, for instance, turn it around and write down how attractive you are. If you have that you think you’re stupid, write down how smart you are, how creative, or how much of a deep thinker you are. For every negative that you’ve listed, write a positive until you have a completely new list that mirrors the negative one. This new list is what you’re going to use to increase your self esteem.

Repeat Daily

When you’re finished and you have both lists, take your negative one and crumple it up. Burn it if it makes you feel better. Tell yourself that you’re going to completely dispose of this negativity permanently. Then, repeat your positive list over and over and repeat this step daily. Some people prefer to do this first thing upon waking, as that’s when you’re mind is fresh. Eventually, you will become to adopt this form of positive thinking and you will see that your self esteem will increase. Then, the next time you find yourself thinking negatively, you’ll be able to recognize it, and you’ll be able to turn it around into a positive idea to further increase your self esteem.
